Only the Brave

LP professionals are being asked to nominate someone from their ranks for acts of bravery in the line of duty as part of the prestigious City of London Sherriff’s Award.

Following their traditional Spring launch event hosted by The Master of the Worshipful Company of Security Professionals Ian Mayes QC, Alderman and Sheriff William Russell and Alderman and Sheriff Peter Estlin, The Worshipful Company of Security Professionals and Sheriffs are now calling for nominations for the City of London Sheriffs’ Award, which will be presented in the Autumn.

The Company is encouraging Loss Prevention Magazine Readers to think about whether themselves or their colleagues could be worthy of such a prestigious award ands to gain a chance for their bravery to be recognised and documented as part of the historic honours records at the Central Criminal Court at the Old Bailey.

It takes just a few minutes to fill out the short nomination form, which requires contact details for both nominee and for the person making the nomination, plus a short citation on why it is thought their nominee is deserving of the Sheriffs’ Award.

Last year, the City of London Sheriffs’ Award for Bravery was presented to Dr. Matthew Smith who received the honour for his role in preventing a fatality following the Leytonstone stabbing incident and for "courageously and selflessly" remaining with the victim throughout the attack.

The Sheriffs’ Award, was introduced shortly after the 2007 London tube and bus bombings, to recognise outstanding acts of bravery by individuals from across the UK. Every year since then, the Sheriffs have sought nominations for members of the public (including professionals such as Security Officers) who have, without thought for their own safety, acted to confront danger in a selfless and inspirational way.

The awardee’s name will be inscribed on an Honours Board and placed in a Book of Honour, which are both on permanent display within the Central Criminal Court, The Old Bailey. This award is open to nominations from the general public, the business community, emergency services and the armed forces.

To submit a nomination for the 2017 Sheriffs’ Award please download the form from the link below and return the completed form by 1 August 2017 either by email to The Clerk at clerk@wcosp.org
