Tone your body and mind during a series of free virtual bootcamp sessions

GB bobsleigh champion Liz Carter argues that performance does not have to go ‘downhill’ as she puts professionals through a virtual workout.

Former Team GB athlete and international bobsleigh champion Liz is proving to professionals that the COVID-19 lockdown doesn’t mean business performance is heading downhill.

Now a personal fitness instructor, Liz, who runs a series of bootcamps through her Norse Foundation, has turned her attention to coaching security and loss prevention professionals through online sessions in their own homes.

The objective of the sessions, commencing in late April and hosted via the Zoom platform, is to tone the body and mind of professionals who may be working from home, on shifts or have been furloughed from their companies so they can keep sharp and in shape during the lockdown.

The 30-minute sessions, sponsored by Amberstone Security, are aimed at all ages and abilities and provide a typical bootcamp workout - cardiovascular conditioning,  plyometrics, strength training and mobility and stretching - in the comfort of your own home, either inside or outdoors.

The exercises and format for every workout is varied so no two bootcamp sessions are ever the same.

“When the lockdown started, I decided to move my training online and I was delighted when at least 90 per cent of my existing customers joined me – and the feedback I get is that it’s been really beneficial,” said Liz who is as comfortable speeding down a bobsleigh run at 70 mph as she is helping professionals reach the heights of their potential.

“That got me thinking about extending the offer to other businesses as their workforce are all in lockdown or furloughed.

“We work with all abilities and everyone fills in a personal health form beforehand, so I know the range of activities they are capable of. We also start with gentle warm-ups. It’s called a bootcamp, but it’s not military drilling. It’s about encouraging people to get involved and work within their comfort zone or stretch themselves if they are able to.”

Liz was the personal coach to Amberstone Security’s CEO Jason Trigg as he and partner Kerinda prepared for the 2019 London Marathon, helping to raise over £10,000 for a locally based Cambridge charity called The Laughter Specialists -  bringing laughter therapy to children and adults in hospitals – particularly those with special needs.

Jason, who had also accepted to run in this year’s London Marathon for the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) charity, said: “There is a strong link between a healthy mind and healthy body. I know from my own experience that through exercise and losing a lot of weight, I am capable of much more as a professional than I would have been in the body of my previous self six years ago - when I was seven stones heavier!

“It’s as much about wellbeing and mental health as it is about our physical health, especially at this time when we are forced into home working or just having to stay home.

“Liz is a great motivator at any time, but now more than ever as she is helping my staff and others to focus on their mind and body fitness. It’s also a great way to get some time for you to enjoy as a team of industry peers. It’s really for everyone and if you’re home schooling, the kids can join in too to stimulate their mental prowess before lessons begin at the kitchen table!”

Participants can join through their laptops, smartphones or through a USB using their own TV.

The sessions are 30 minutes long and no equipment is needed.  The sessions are scheduled for the following dates and times:
